GreenBytes and OpenSolaris

Although it has not yet been formally announced by Oracle, rumors abound that there could be changes coming for its OpenSolaris community. Anyone who is familiar with GreenBytes and our products knows that OpenSolaris is a component of our data storage solutions. Thus, with the potential changes appearing on the horizon for OpenSolaris, it’s certainly a fair question to ask, “What will this mean for GreenBytes, our products, customers and partners?”

The answer is quite simple: nothing. Although OpenSolaris is a meaningful component of GreenBytes product, it is absolutely critical to understand that GreenBytes’ overwhelming value proposition is the intellectual property (IP) developed and owned by GreenBytes.  GreenBytes will continue to control and develop the key technologyenhancements that make our products what they are – revolutionary and evolutionary next-generation storage solutions.

It is also important to note that OpenSolaris technology will remain available and accessible.   GreenBytes has full source code for all included functionality and will continue to support that code for as long as it remains part of any GreenBytes offering.

With possible changes coming in the OpenSolaris camp, it will remain business as usual for GreenBytes, our products, and our valued customers and partners. GreenBytes has and continues to plan for regular, controlled releases of the GreenBytes File System (GBFS) that will add additional features to benefit our customers, and we look forward to building on our success as the emerging leader in next-generation data storage solutions.
